Doula

Missouri has one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the country, and depending on a pregnant person’s ZIP code or race, the disparity is greater. St. Louis Health Department and Korede House, a St. Louis women’s wellness center, are collaborating to help improve maternal health outcomes.

Doulas and birth centers are considered part of the solution to Missouri’s ‘unacceptable’ maternal mortality crisis. But current law makes it difficult to help mothers most in need.

Eboni Hooper-Boateng found her pregnancy journey empowering. After discovering her experience was an outlier, especially among fellow Black women, she became a doula to offer such support to others.
